Return to the Indie Wedding DJ Customer Wedding Music Guide
It is not easy to choose a father/bride song. I personally like it when brides pick songs from their childhood that mean something to them and their dads. If you’re drawing a blank or want some inspiration, I’ve compiled a list of the best that there is to offer.
If you happen to look through some other sites for ideas, be careful that you don’t pick a song that has an incestuous or inappropriate feel to it. There are a lot of bad suggestions out there for this category of songs.
Not Sappy
Cute
No lyrics
Booker T. & The MG’s – Green Onions (motown)
Glenn Miller – Moonlight Serenade (Classic slow dance song without lyrics)
Dick Dale & The Del-Tones – Miserlou (surf rock)
Some happy slower songs
The Beatles – Here Comes the Sun
Simon and Garfunkel – 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin Groovy)
The Beatles – All You Need Is Love
Slightly Sappy
Ray Charles – Ain’t That Love
The Beatles – Here There and Everywhere
The Temptations – Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch
Neil Young – Here For You
Sappy but Happy
Johnny Cash – You Are My Sunshine
Frank Sinatra – The Way You Look Tonight (this one could be a considered a little creepy)
Led Zeppelin – Thank You (Please note that Thank You could also be considered a little creepy if you listen close to the lyrics)
Paul Simon’s “Father and Daughter”
Otis Redding – That’s How Strong My Love Is
O.V. Wright – That’s How Strong My Love Is
Neil Young – Here for You
Crosby Stills Nash & Young – Teach Your Children Well
The Beach Boys – God Only Knows
Marvin Gaye – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
Stevie Wonder – Isn’t She Lovely
Sappy but a Little Sad (either the lyrics or the tempo)
Personally I think that you should pick a happy sounding song so that if there are tears that they are tears of joy not sorrow but here are some options in case you disagree.
Natalie Merchant – Kind and Generous
James Taylor – You’ve Got a Friend
Do not use as their lyrics are inappropriate:
Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl
Elton John – Tiny Dancer
John Mayer – Daughters
